Updating the foyer!

Hi all,

Well, the promised update of the foyer area is nearly complete – we’ve been busy painting the interior lattice a bright white, and the front door will follow the current bright theme of burnt orange with a really intense glossy red enamel. Let’s live with a little colour! The floor and stairs are ironstone grey. We hope to have the foyer ready by Monday Jan 30, but as the rains are interrupting our plans we may be painting into February.

Nearly all our places are fully booked for 2012: three students have formally said their goodbyes as they pursue other interests, and we welcome Felix, Samara, Amber and Karly to our studio. We also welcome back Matt, Josh and Rhiannon, who are past students of the studio and who just can’t seem to stay away! And of course a big hello to all current students of the studio – we are really looking forward to seeing you all again and hearing about your summer holidays, and making plans for 2012.

We have a few plans in store this year: as well as the usual round of Eisteddfoddau, AMEB exams and auditions, I am also planning a Masterclass with lyric coloratura Kristy Swift, who is playing Yum Yum in Opera Queensland’s Mikado in July. Kristy is a resident of London and performs with Royal Opera House Covent Garden. We can’t wait for her input! The Masterclass is planned for July.

We are also planning an early concert prep day in May, for those who have Eisteddfoddau coming up, and who want some performance practice with a wonderful accompanist. Stay tuned for more information about that day! And of course we will be having our usual end of year Showcase Concert, this year planned for late October – mid November.

A reminder to all students and parents that my old dog Boots the Beagle likes to be part of the action – if you don’t like old, smelly, toothless dogs slobbering on you, or you are phobic about dogs, just say so and he will be banished from your lesson. He doesn’t teach, by the way, he mostly hangs about under my feet, getting in the way.

Welcome back, one and all!
