Last week we had air-conditioning installed and it has already made a huge difference to comfort levels in the studio during hot afternoons. I have turned it on just twice so far but my relief is palpable! In fact, so well did the machine work that I had to turn it down, then off, during a warm Wednesday lunch time lesson.
The next plan is to replace all the louvre windows with laminated hopscotch windows, which will dramatically reduce noise levels and heat transference in the studio. I’m weighing up the options of removing the ceiling to retrofit sound and heat insulation. Of course, if I do this, I’ll need to replace the uninsulated Masonite walls as well, so keep posted for a pending decision on this. It could be a summer holiday job.
Some great results for the Plainsong studio students – Adil is through to the final 12 on X-Factor; Kiara came second in the Gympie Muster Talent Quest; Rhiannon has just finished a successful season as Hope Caldwell in Underground’s hilarious production of Urinetown; Rachel was awarded an A for her 8th grade singing exam; and Felix is performing in Opera Queensland’s production of Carmen later on this year.
In other news, I am helping out in Singamorning’s charity event Brisbane Musical Theatre United 2012 and I urge everyone to come along and join in this wonderful event on October 13 to help Make Poverty History.
